8 Reasons Why You Failed

When embarking on a new goal or a revitalizing an old one, we tend to think this time could be different. We get excited about our new vision and what we can accomplish. Below are some tips for you to possibly help you understand what could have went wrong. At times when helping others understand their failure, I can hopefully prevent them from doing it again in the future. So, below is a list of things that I see most often when it comes to incorporating a lifestyle habit of fitness. The truth is anyone can do it but few people take a step back and really try to learn the skill and what’s behind it. There is more than meets the eye when it comes to fitness/health. It’s something that when done over a period of time it will take your soul because of the positive benefits. Most people go back to their old selves because it’s easier, change is hard but that is where the magic happen. We all have old habits which are just neuropath ways of our brain that control our actions and going against them can be a lot of emotional and mental work which can be the most draining. So, here’s a few reason why you could have failed and how you can fix them.

1) You Didn’t Have A Strong Enough Reason Why – What is your purpose? Why do you want to get on a fitness program? Is it to lose weight? Why do you want to lose weight? If your answer isn’t something that at your core ignites a fire then you aren’t focusing on the right thing. When I began my fitness journey, I had a burning desire to look a certain way and just felt that I needed to do it. After that, it was because of the way it made me feel. Now it’s because I understand the health benefits of it mentally and physically, and it helps me stay disciplined. I know what I DON’T want to look like which motivates me even more. My WHY has evolved, and for most people they don’t let their habits evolve. They do it for a few months, a year then stop, but nothing good comes out of that, nothing is learned. I’ve been training/eating lifestyle for 15 years and continue to learn in nutrition and training. Find your WHY and finding out what you don’t want to happen, and then let your habits shape that!

2) Tried To Rely On a Trainer– Getting a trainer is a bad move. Trainers work you out and then you go home and you have learned nothing. A coach, on the other hand, is what you need. Someone who will show you how to do things the right way, tell you why you are doing it, and that you need to do it consistently. If you don’t learn the mechanics of it all then when you leave that person you will be clueless as to what to do and then you will go back to old habits. Find a coach that will teach you the right way so that you can be educated, and then continue to practice what he or she taught you on your own and never give up. You need to practice on your own not just when you are with him or her 3 hours max a week.

3) You Tried To Do Too Much To Fast– Moving fast is good, because you are taking action but if you move too fast to where you don’t build up any consistent habits, and then you will go back to your old habits, which is easier. In other words, you went too hard to fast, and only you can judge that not the coach. Develop one habit at a time that you know you can do then continue to do it until its second nature.

4) Bad Time Management– Not planning ahead to see when you can train when you have a busy schedule, with children, etc., is common mistake. You need to look ahead and be prepared. You can’t shoot from the hip and expect things to go smoothly. My suggestion is train in the morning before your hectic day starts, you can get it in without distractions and also, nothing can pop up to have you miss it. You don’t need a gym, all you need is your body and some music and you’re good to go.

5) You Gave Up To Easily– Things didn’t work out the way you planned and you shut it down. The truth of the matter is you didn’t get what you wanted because you weren’t doing the right things for a long enough period of time. Or, your plan wasn’t good or you didn’t work hard enough. There’s your lesson and now you know how to fix it when you try next time. If you look at the world this way, there is NO FAILURE it’s just FEEDBACK. You didn’t FAIL you LEARNED and now you can make the adjustment next time and hopefully next time is right now! So, get up and make that change your success is right there if you can stay with it. “Fall down seven times, stand up eight”-Chinese Proverb. If you can do that you will inevitably win! “Failure is feedback which means you’re trying which means you are on your way, be patient, and stop judging yourself on how things “should be”.”

6) You Were Focused On The Wrong “Wins”- You should be focused on daily habits. Did I eat my 3 meals and 2 snacks? Did I eat my protein? Did I eat whole foods? Did I do my work out? If so, today is a win! Pat yourself on the back, give yourself a high five. When was the last time you gave yourself a high five? Been a while? Do it now, and then tell yourself how awesome you are! Focus on what you can control, not the scale. The scale is the by-product of doing the things above consistently. Judge yourself on your process goals not your outcomes. Then it will come

7) You Didn’t Believe In Yourself – The foundation to all life and success is belief, and self-esteem. If you don’t believe it, you cannot achieve it and vice versa. Work on yourself. Tell yourself that you can do it, that you deserve it, and that you are the best. There is no one else like you so you are the best! Self-belief was something I struggled with early in my life but since having some success, I realized how much it reflects the outcome and truly makes our reality. So, love yourself, believe in yourself, and know that you deserve it because you do. You owe it to yourself, and your family.

8) Life Happened, And You Weren’t Fully Committed– Life happens to everyone and those that stick to their goals is because they had a strong reason and commitment to doing so. You need to make a non-negotiable deal with yourself that eating easy accessible, poor nutrient foods is not acceptable even when too busy. You also need to make time for yourself and workout. These are non-negotiable for me and will always be. I can’t help myself or my family if I don’t have this down every day. Expect the best from yourself and you will get that.
